What books I bought with my gift card

>Around the middle of May I wrote about receiving a $20 Amazon.com gift card from work. I was debating which books to purchase and many of you had some great suggestions.

My biggest dilemma was whether or not to buy books that I enjoy reading but can’t find at the library. Mainly paperbacks and light  or “summer” reading type material, they are books I don’t really plan on keeping but either donating to my local library or selling at Half Price books

I ended up choosing four books. All four are from the Mystery section, which is one of my favorite genres. None of them are found in my library. I haven’t quite decided what I’m going to do with these books now that I’ve finished reading them.

The Sea King's DaughterOne of the four books I bought was  The Sea King’s Daughter by Barbara Michaels. I did not realize that Barbara Michaels is a pseudonym for Elizabeth Peters. No wonder I’ve enjoyed Ms. Michaels’s books! I adore Elizabeth Peters’s Amelia Peabody Egyptian series along with her Vicky Bliss series. The book is set on the Greek island of Thera, there is a hint of danger, betrayal, dark superstition surrounding Sandy Frederick & her estranged obsessed father’s archaeological dig. Not too hard to figure out the “who done it” part but full of thrills & chills none the less. I’ve read some of Barbara Michaels books before from the library but not this specific one.

Demons Are a Ghoul's Best Friend (Ghost Hunter Mysteries, Book 2)The second book I bought is still considered a mystery but definitely different. The author is Victoria Laurie and it is the 2nd book in her Ghost Hunter Mystery series, Demons are a Ghoul’s Best Friend . It features M.J. Holliday, a professional medium who has turned ghost hunter. She and her best friend, Gilly, also eliminated ghosts, either sending them to the light or closing their portals to this world. Toss in some romantic possibilities with a handsome doctor, a obnoxious African Gray Parrot, and a knock out bombshell best friend and you have the ingredients for a pleasurable afternoon read. This books is set with Hatchet Jack attacking students at a rich boarding school in upstate NY. I didn’t guess the “who done it” until almost the end of the book.

I’ll write about the remaining two books later this week. They are both from the same author and series.
