Chestal – Product Review

Anyone who has been anywhere near me since mid June knows I have a wicked cough. It started as an upper respiratory infection but while I’m no longer contagious, the cough WILL NOT GO AWAY! Seriously. It is the cough that will never die.

My cough is occasionally deep and hacking. Sometimes I cough hard enough to the point of retching. Soooo not pleasant. Most of the time my cough is just an ordinary annoying cough.

I have tried many things to get rid of this cough. 3 trips to my doctor. Prednisone twice. Inhalers. Asthma meds. Over the counter medications. You name it and I’ve probably tried it.

It is extremely difficult to find OTC medications that are single or even just 2 symptoms. All I have is a cough. No fever, no congestion, my lungs are clear, no stuffy nose/head.

Enter Chestal Honey by Boiron, world leader in homeopathic medicines. I had a bottle from BlogHer ’11 last year. Boiron was one of the companies at the Expo this year too.

I’m not big into homeopathic medicine. I do have an open mind towards homeopathic medicines but I love me some pharmaceuticals if needed.

Anyhow, being totally desperate I thought I’d give this stuff a try. IT WORKED! It is the only thing I’ve found that will quiet my cough. It doesn’t make it go away but I’m not hacking up a lung on a constant basis either.

What I really like about Chestal is that despite being honey based, it is not overly sweet.  The taste is lightly sweet, not overpowering. The syrup is not super thick like some medicines that have honey in them. I also like that Chestal treats just 1 symptom, the 1 symptom I needed treated, not a gazillion I don’t.

From the box and website –

Safe * Non-Drowsy * Dye-Free

No Drug Interactions

Works Naturally with Your Body

It isn’t very long lasting, dosage is 10ml every 2 hours for adults and children ages 12 and up. That is the only thing I don’t like about Chestal Honey.

I highly recommend Chestal Honey to anyone with an aggravated cough that just won’t die. Check with your doctor first of course! You can find Chestal at HEB,  Whole Foods, online retailers and independent health stores.  There is even a coupon on the Chestal website!

Thanks to Chestal I no longer have to wear a sign around my neck saying “I’m not contagious according to my doctor” while I’m out and about. My cough is under control.
