Hubby update – Stage 4 colon cancer

The PET scan went fine. We met with oncologist last Tuesday to review the test results. The spot on the liver is definitely cancer which makes this officially Stage 4 colon cancer.

Since the cancer has already spread, Dr. C wants to start chemo immediately. Luckily Hubby was able to get a portacath put in last Thursday despite the short notice. The port will make chemo easier in the long run. Chemo starts this Thursday, the 29th. One day in the office and 2 days at home for 3 days total of chemo, every other week for a minimum of 6 months. We are also meeting with a liver doctor to get him in the loop in case the spot can be surgically removed after chemo stops.

The cancer is very aggressive and has already invaded his lymph system. When the tumor tore through the wall of Hubby’s colon, those cancer cells spread throughout his entire body cavity. Those cells can attach to any organ and start growing at any time, causing the cancer to spread.

Prognosis for Stage 4 cancer with a ruptured colon is not good. Dr. C says every person is different and your individual outlook does make a difference along with overall health. So I am focusing on healthier eating and more exercise for us as a family. Hubby has to focus on keeping a positive outlook too.

Thank you all for your prayers and kind words. They mean so very much to me right now.

Elizabeth
