>DX Kid’s Cafe Update

>As I have mentioned before, my sister & her hubby are in the process of adopting from Russia via Buckner International.  They have passed their home study & been approved by Buckner. Rachael & Chris are looking to adopt a sibling pair, ranging in ages from 3-7.  You can read about their journery on her blog, Sanity is Optional in Texas.

At this point in the long involved process they are sorta stalled at the paying for it all part. They have been saving money for the past 2 years. Part of that savings has been used to pay for the bits & pieces as you move along in the adoption process. Things like the home study, application fees, doctor’s appointments, etc. Right now Rachael & Chris need about $40,000 to complete the adoption. So they have been doing quite a bit of fundraising this past year.

Profits from the baby blankets we sell in our Etsy shop, L & R Designs, goes towards their adoption expenses. Chris has a part time job at Wal-Mart & that income is directly going into savings. Rachael is also making & selling super yummy baked goods. See her blog or me for details and/or ordering info. They’ve sold stuff on eBay as well.

The lastest fundraising attempt was Saturday, March 6th. Rachael & Chris ran the food concession at the BVARC Houston Hamfest.  I blogged about it HERE. Rachael planned an awesome menu, rounded up some volunteers, & had a brisk busy day of selling hot dogs, breakfast tacos, coffe, sodas, & fresh baked cookies. Overall they did pretty good making approximately $1200 from the event.

Rachael is still researching various grants, loans, & other options to help reduce the total cost of the adoption. You can donate via PayPal on her blog if you want. Or if you need a baby gift, please check out our Etsy shop. We also take custom orders if you are so inclined.

Just wanted to give you an update on their progress!

Elizabeth
