2012 Reading Challenges

Yes, that is challenges with an S on the end. As in plural or more than 1 reading challenge for 2012. Considering I didn’t finish the one I decided to participate in last year I like to think I’m stretching myself a bit. I don’t have a problem with the reading part, it’s writing the review part where I get hung up.

I’m going to participate in Jenna‘s 2012 Adoption Reading Challenge, level 1. That is committing to read 3 books about adoption, fiction or non-fiction.

I’m also committing to the 3660 Minutes Reading Challenge at MommyWantsToRead. The challenge is to spend 10 minutes every single day reading to your child. Encouraging and developing a love of reading in Charlie is something we already do. Charlie reading himself counts as does discussion about what you are reading.

There are lots of interesting reading challenges all over the internet. A Novel Challenge has quite a few listings of different book challenges. You don’t have to be a blogger to participate in most of them. Or even write reviews of the books for some. I am kinda eyeing the SciFi one Karen mentioned on BlogHer. There is one for reading all the books of Pern, romance novels, faith based non-fiction, YA, and so much more! I encourage you to scroll through the challenges and see if one catches your eye.

One thing I plan on doing is reading 100** books this year AND logging them in my GoodReads account. I’m horrible about tracking what I read. I set a goal of 70 books last year and beat that so I’m setting my goal higher in 2012. I am better at managing my book requests from the library now. I plan on learning how to request eBooks from the library and download them to my Nook Color.  I am going to become more active in the BlogHer Book Club as well in 2012.

Have you set any reading goals for 2012? Or even thought about setting a reading goal? How about reading challenges? Will you join me in some?

Elizabeth

** I just realized I read and logged 88 books in GoodReads for 2011 so 90 books would not be a stretch for me. I upped the number to 100.

  1. I can *probably* help you with library e-book thing. I don’t have a Nook (not available in Canada) but the basics should be the same.

    • I might just have to hollar for help from you or Denise at some point. I did download the Overdrive program. The library has steps posted they just look complicated to me. I do better with reading instructions while someone actually shows me the steps at the same time.

  2. I have a nook here, so yell if you need help. (I Haven’t tried to connect to our library yet – but I certainly could.)

    • Thanks. I might have to hollar for help. I did manage to download Overdrive which is supposedly the 1st step. I did put some ebooks on hold. I will probably try to download something this weekend.
