This was the first year that Charlie’s Cub Scout Pack held it’s own Pinewood Derby in over 6 years.
Being a small pack we don’t have a lot of money to spend on things like trophies. I turned to my trusted resource for just about anything, Pinterest. There are tons of ideas on how to make inexpensive PW Derby trophies. I instantly fell in love with these:
I figured I could make these easily enough. I already had scrap wood, glue, paint, and Hot Wheels. All I needed was spark plugs and some large bolts. The bolts were cheap enough at Home Depot. I went to my local automotive repair shop, Colony One Auto Center, and asked them for used spark plugs. Dustin Raynor was a gem! They saved spark plugs for us all week long and worried they didn’t have enough to give us.
I made the trophies different sizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. I also made trophies for the different categories as well as a Thank You Trophy for Colony One Auto Center.
I believe the trophies turned out quite nice. The boys enjoyed them at least.

Well done! I love these.
