One Huge Scary Step Forward

I’ve talked about this to friends in real life but not much online.  For the past year I have been noodling around the idea about going back to graduate school.

I saw an ad, not exactly sure where, for a Masters degree in Social Media.  It sparked something inside me. I love social media and truly enjoy blogging, Facebook, Twitter, etc. Somewhere in the deep dark recesses of my mind I thought “I would like that”.  So I started researching schools and degree programs. I need something online, that I can do at night and somewhat on my own schedule.

After much prayer and research, I decided on University of Florida’s Masters of Arts in Mass Communication – Social Media program, part of their College of Journalism and Communications.  The degree program focuses on the marketing, the how and why of social media, the principles, etc. that a company should use to promote, brand, and provide customer service interactions with the public via social media.

So the first step is to retake the GRE. Scores are only valid for 5 years and since I took the GRE back at Howard Payne, it’s been a little bit more than 5 years. I officially registered for the GRE yesterday. My testing date is March 27th. I can take the test online now at the official testing center. You can retest after 21 days. Since I’m applying for the Fall 2014 semester that lets me retake the GRE test if I need to and still make the application deadlines.

I haven’t take a test in 20+ years.  I do take tests, especially standardized tests, well so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I plan on picking up a study guide this weekend and utilizing online resources. Part of the GRE test fee includes access to online practice tests which I plan to take advantage of as well.

The next big scary step is to start on the FAFSA process, after completing my 2013 income taxes of course.

Please pray for me as I begin this scary yet exciting process. It will take some major adjustments to our lives if I get accepted.
