Hurricane made simple and cheap

>

I saw this awesome idea on Sarah’s website, Thrifty Decor Chick.  She got it from Emily at Decor Chick.  Emily saw the knock-off over at Get Your Martha On, who copied it from some one else, etc. So in the tradition of Faberge Organics Shampoo (you tell 2 friends, they tell 2 friends, and so on) I’m sharing the idea with you.

The inspiration was a hurricane from Williams-Sonoma which, while lovely, is expensive at prices ranging from $56 – $118 each.

At the Dollar Tree I bought a glass candlestick holder and a flat bottomed vase for $1 each (plus tax). Using Gorilla Glue (I bought the one that dries white) I glued the two together. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came in handy to use as a weight while the glue was drying.

You can certainly buy different heights of glass candlesticks and vases at Wal*Mart or your local dollar store to make different hurricanes in varying sizes and heights.

Voila! Here is the finished product on my mantle. Now all I need is help with ideas with what to fill it with. I’m open to any and all suggestions. My walls are painted a deep red. I have no decor other than “toy room for 5 year old boy” and hand-me down ugly furniture.
