Fried Okra

>I love fried okra! My mom loved it too and always made it fresh when I was growing up. Nothing is better than fresh from the garden okra cut up into small pieces, battered, and fried. Oh the crunch, the crispy outside & yummy inside!

I do not like to cook. I admit I am not a good cook. I’m also lazy and don’t want to mess with all the work that goes into making my own fried okra. Of course, I am the only one out of the 3 of us who likes fried okra. Charlie will eat it (his 5 bites) with minimal fuss. Robert eats his 5 bites with major facial contortions to show how much he dislikes eating it.

So over the years I have bought frozen prepared fried okra in small bags. That way I can make a small batch whenever I get a craving for it. The brand I have used for years never really fried up well and the batter wasn’t evenly spread over the okra. It sufficed because there just isn’t a lot of choices for frozen premade fried okra out there.

Hubby now works part time for HEB grocery stores. I was browsing the frozen veggie section while making the usual grocery run one day and lo & behold, there was frozen premade fried okra! It was the HEB brand but I’m not super picky so I thought I would give it a try.

It was awesome! Fried up beautifully, a lovely golden brown batter evenly coated the okra pieces, and oh so yummy. I am hooked on the new stuff. So much better than what I had been cooking up before. I will only buy my fried okra from HEB from this point onwards. If you enjoy fried okra but not what all is involved in making it, I highly recommend checking out your local HEB store (assuming you live in Texas). If you don’t live in the South, you probably have no idea what I’m rambling on about anyways.

That’s it for today folks. Nothing super exciting except to me. I just had to share my new discovery and favorite veggie with someone!
