Colon Cancer

The pathologist called the surgeon on Wednesday and said the mass removed from Hubby’s bowel is definitely cancer. We don’t know anything else at this time because we don’t have the official finalized pathology report.

The presumption is the tumor grew until it was too big to fit inside the colon. Sadly as the tumor got bigger, it pressed against the wall of the large intestine thinning it until it started to tear. As that part of that process, fecal matter and other nasty stuff started seeping into Hubby’s body cavity. Which would explain why Hubby has felt a little sick off and on for the past 3 weeks.

So that is where we stand for now. We haven’t met with an oncologist yet because we just don’t see a reason to until the full pathology report is available.

I go back to work on Monday. Thankfully I work from home with a somewhat flexible job so I can be at the hospital quickly if needed.

Thank you so much for all the kind words and prayers. They mean the world to me, Hubby and Charlie.

Elizabeth

  1. How is R holding up? How are you holding up?

    • Hubby is cranky which is normal. He hurts, he’s bored, he’s feeling abandoned since I don’t stay at the hospital for hours. He thinks he’ll come home on Monday – ha! There is a slight bacterial infection still present so they won’t release him until that is cleared up. Still waiting on pathology report too.

  2. Still surrounding you with love and prayers. Lots of them.

  3. Elizabeth, please know I am here for you and your family. Add me to the list of someone who can watch Charlie, run errands, cook meals, and most important – PRAY. Remember to take care of yourself during this time. God Bless!

  4. WOW that is tough!!

My stepfather was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer which had spread into his liver as well in April 2011. He is dealing with the same boredom issues as well as all the fears that “cancer” brings. And sometimes he can be a tough cookie to deal with…. we all are learning to be graceful and loving through the hard times!

    Prayers!
