“Bang the Drum” – Ford Warriors in Pink

The first time I heard of Ford’s “Warriors in Pink” program was August 2011 at the Ford BlogHer family picnic. Ford has thrown their heart and soul into a program to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for research.

Too many people are affected by cancer – not just breast cancer but all types of cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I was asked to talk about someone I know who has been affected by cancer and how he or she is a model of courage.  Sadly I know many people who have been affected by this insidious disease, including most recently my husband.

Colon cancer does not have a whole month dedicated to it. It isn’t very “glamorous” but it is just as deadly. My husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Colon cancer in Nov. 2011 after emergency surgery for a ruptured bowel.

My husband is my warrior. He has continued to work as much as he can, even during chemotherapy. He had a portable chemo pump and worked from home. He accepted the Cub Master position of our son’s Pack after his diagnosis and treatment started.  He helps me out with PTO stuff. He went with us to church when feeling up to it. Hubby continued to go to Charlie’s football games, even if he felt poorly. Hubby maintained a positive outlook, which is unusual because he tends to be a tad bit negative most of the time.

Hubby’s focus is on living a long life despite the average life span of 2-3 years given after a ruptured colon and in Stage 4.  He has shown grace under pressure.  His outcome has become more dire in the past week but Hubby is still trying to fight. He is a true warrior!

This October, Ford Warriors in Pink® has launched its first ever produced documentary, “Bang the Drum: Living Out Loud in the Face of Breast Cancer.” The film honors 11 men and women breast cancer survivors who have demonstrated strength and courage in their battle with its “Models of Courage” program. 2012 marks Ford Motor Company’s 18th year of support for the breast cancer cause. In that time, Ford has dedicated more than $115 million to the breast cancer cause.

You too can get involved in this tremendously worthy program! When you buy Ford Warriors in Pink apparel at  http://www.warriorsinpink.ford.com/, 100 percent of the net proceeds go directly to support breast cancer awareness all year long.

There is some really cute stuff for sale  for both women and men and at a variety of price points.

To keep connected, be sure to check out Ford Warriors in Pink on Facebook and follow @WarriorsinPink on Twitter.
