Back to School Madness!

I’m talking about PTO back to school madness. I’m the new PTO President this year. Yay?

Charlie is already taken care of for back to school. We found the backpack and lunch kit on Sunday, Angry Birds of course. Tennis shoes were done Wednesday. There is no way in heck I’m going out this weekend to shop! It’s Tax Free Weekend and to be honest, the 8.25% savings is not enough to counterbalance all the nutzos, cuckoos, and crazies!!

PTO Back to School Madness is a whole different story. School starts on Aug. 27 and Meet the Teacher night is Aug. 23, next Thursday.  We also have our last summer Spirit Night on Tues, Aug. 21st, at Chick-Fil-A.

Prepaid School supplies are being delivered this afternoon. 1.25 tons of school supplies to be exact. The school was to be open this week but the A/C repairs took longer. People weren’t allowed back into the school until yesterday.  So the PTO (and by that I mean me and a few volunteers) has to get all the supplies sorted and delivered to the appropriate classrooms by Thursday. We also have to get the extra consignment boxes organized and ready to sell by Thursday.

There are the Back to School packets that need to be created, forms to be copied, forms to be created, posters and buttons made! All the PTO supplies that are currently in my garage need to migrate back to the school in a timely manner. Fall fundraising! School Store! Spirit Wear!

All of this while I and the majority of the PTO work at our regular jobs.  While we gear up for all the extra curricular activities, get kids back on school routines, finish up back to school shopping, and the gazillion other things going on in daily life.

And I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Elizabeth

On behalf of the elementary school teachers in the greater Houston area, THANK YOU for all the sacrifices you make to support our work. We greatly appreciate all the Moms and Dads who work so hard behind the scenes! Our PTO is hosting a welcome back breakfast Monday morning. Always starts the year off right.

    • You’re welcome! I enjoy my PTO work even when it drives me nuts. I totally forgot we’re (meaning me) hosting breakfast for the teachers on Monday too. I know schools, teachers and students function better when parents are involved in the school. Education is something to be valued. Sadly today many times it is not.

  2. One of my mommy friends was PTA president at the kids old school and I helped her out a bit here and there. You couldn’t pay me to join the craziness. Kudos to you for taking this on. 🙂
