I officially joined Weight Watchers on April 13.   More on that later.

I went to my first meeting and weigh in on Saturday. I’ve lost 4.6 pounds! Yay!

Sunday I woke up feeling a little off but went about my day as usual. Weekends are the times I use my extra points because we eat out more. By Sunday night I was sick as a dog.

I don’t know if it was something I ate or what but I have thrown up just about every other hour starting at 7pm last night. The last occurrence was just before 5am. I have managed to keep some water and a banana down so far this morning.

I have searched the Weight Watchers Online site, the app and the literature I have. Nowhere can I find the answer to the question I asked on Twitter last night. Surely I am not the first person to wonder? So I am asking you what you think.

If I throw up dinner (and subsequently lunch and everything else), do I get to delete the WW PointsPlus I tracked for the meals? Does barfing count as exercise?

Personally, throwing up should totally count as exercise. You use the same muscles as you would doing  sit ups or curls.  Right? Now all I need is to buy a scale and see how much weight I lost overnight.

It’s been awhile since I’ve posted a Hubby update.

Chemo is going well. The only major side effect is a sensitivity to cold, especially in drinks. There have been a few days where Hubby complains about feeling queasy. If he takes his anti-nausea medicine it goes away.  (imagine that)

Two weeks ago his Alkaline levels had spiked to 179 which caused some concern with Dr. C about the possibility of gall stones.  Hubby’s ultrasound came back clear of gall stones.  His alkaline levels are dropping back down. Dr. C thinks it maybe one of the drugs in the chemotherapy cocktail.

Chemo was scheduled for this week but Hubby’s platelets are too low at 60,000. 100,000 is the preferred levels but chemo can be done with platelets as low as 80,000.  More lab work done on Friday and next Monday we’ll know if Hubby is cleared to resume chemo next Tuesday.

We are 8 chemo sessions in so far. Another PET scan is due next month which will give us a better idea of how the cancer is reacting to the chemo.

Hubby plans on taking a break over the summer to have his Ileostomy reversed. Dr. C wants to have the spot on Hubby’s liver removed surgically.

Thank you for all your prayers. I know they are making a difference.

I first saw these awesome dyed eggs last Easter in a friend’s blog.  I thought “what a cool idea” and promptly forgot about it. Apparently the idea is still floating around the Internet because I saw another post about silk tie dyed eggs on BlogHer just this past week.  Now of course there is Pinterest so I was able to pin the photos and blog link for future reference. Check out my Pin for detailed instructions.

Anyhow, I was determined to try it this year. So I headed to Goodwill Select for some 100% silk ties. My regular thrift store was closed for Good Friday. I also picked up a white pillowcase and a stock pot there.  There wasn’t a huge selection of ties but I soldiered on.

the silk ties I used

Unlike Jackie I did not have a nasty smell when boiling and simmering my eggs. I also totally forgot to take pictures of the process which was my theme for the day. I didn’t get photos of Charlie, David and Michael dyeing eggs or playing. I took a few with my phone last night at my SIL’s annual egg dyeing party.

Back to the eggs……

The dyed eggs turned out pretty darn good if I say so myself. I still need to coat them with oil to make them shiny. I took them to my SIL’s house last night to brag and show the eggs off. Here are the photos of the eggs as a group and individually. Sorry the pictures do not do the eggs justice. I am a lousy photographer and it was 10pm.

all the eggs together

this egg didn't come out so well

I plan on raiding my dad’s closet today and checking out more thrift stores for more silk ties. I am also going to check out Hobby Lobby for ceramic eggs. I have read that the wooden eggs do not take the dye well. You can also try this with blown eggs if you want to keep them for next year.

This is easy enough that kids can do it too, with supervision of course.

Warning – Do NOT eat the eggs! Decorative purposes only! Fabric dyes are not food safe.

A few weeks ago I learned something interesting.  One of my sister-in-laws keeps her butter in a kitchen cabinet.  Real butter, not margarine, as in Land O’ Lakes butter.

I did not know you could do that. I thought all dairy type products had to be kept in the fridge or it would spoil.

Maybe it is a Northern or Yankee thing? My brother-in-law is from Buffalo, NY and they’ve lived up there for years.  I’ve never known anyone to keep real butter anywhere but in the fridge.

I was at my SIL’s house and looking for butter for Hubby’s toast. I couldn’t find it in the fridge so I asked Terri, my BIL’s sister, if she knew where it was. Her exact words to me were “If we were in New York I’d say look in the pantry or a kitchen cabinet.”

Voila, there the butter was! My SIL’s explanation is that your house is climate controlled with air conditioning. It won’t spoil. Plus then you don’t have to wait for it to soften before using it!!

I learned something new and kinda cool. So where do you store your butter? In the fridge or pantry/cabinet?

I am officially going to BlogHer ’12 this summer in NYC!

With everything going on I was not sure I would be able to attend. Let’s face it New York City is expensive plus the cost of the conference, travel, and everything else to boot. I really wanted to go and Hubby was all for me going too.

Then the whole cancer thing caused a shift in plans and priorities.

Hubby found out that BlogHer offers scholarships to the conference. He encouraged me to apply saying that if I got the cost of the conference covered (which includes meals) then we can figure out a way to get me there and the hotel cost covered too.

I am now officially a BlogHer conference volunteer! Yay! I am a Mic Wrangler. That is a fancy smancy title for someone who holds a microphone and runs around the room taking the microphone to people in the session so they can ask questions and be heard. I only have to “work” a session or two each day. I still have plenty of time to attend other sessions for myself.

I am so thankful for this opportunity. I am doubly thankful that Hubby encouraged me to apply and to go. We are using frequent flyer miles for my ticket so I won’t have to stress over flying standby. I’ve book a hotel room but still need to find a roommate to help with the cost.

Overall I am so thrilled to be going. I will get to see my OLF (on line friends) again in person, learn a lot of really cool stuff, have fun, and see NYC.
