>My latest Extreme Couponing Success

>I am still fascinated by the concept of Extreme Couponing. I know the TV show is edited and pre-planned to show the true extremes of couponing. The thought of doing something similar, on a much smaller scale, appeals to me.  As I mentioned in April I am starting to pay more attention to sales and matching up sales with coupons.  That is all there is to it – seriously. Matching a coupon to a sale to give you the most bang for your buck is the basic principle in extreme couponing.

Here is one of my successes in Extreme Couponing at Wal-Mart. I wear a night guard because I clench my jaw at night. Not quite the same thing as grinding my teeth but I digress. My night guard needs cleaning. I use denture cleaners to do the job since my night guard is considered a dental appliance. Here’s how the deal went down…..

A 36 count box of Fixodent is $3.47 at Wal-Mart. Thanks to my dad who gives me his Sunday coupons I had 2 coupons for $3.00 off a box (any size) of Fixodent cleanser. I also had 2 coupons of Buy One, Get One Free (BOGO) for Fixodent cleanser. In my experience things like denture cleansers are rarely on sale so sometimes you just gotta make do with what you got coupon wise.

I ended up with 6 boxes (216 tablets) of Fixodent denture cleanser for $7.88 (not including tax). That is a savings of  $12.94.  Here is the actually math per coupon/deal for those who might be interested.

  $3.47 – 1 box of Fixodent
– $3.00 – coupon   $  .47 – for the box of 36 tablets

           $6.94 – 2 boxes of Fixodent
         – $3.47 – coupon for Buy 1, Get 1 free
           $3.47 – for 2 boxes (72 tablets)

Since I had 2 of each type of coupon (4 total) I was able to do this twice. Normally I would NOT buy this much denture cleanser at once but since the coupons were expiring I hated to not take advantage of the offers. This is an example of stockpiling on a small scale.

Well, that’s enough bragging for now. I will be writing more about Extreme Couponing my way later on this month. Just so you can realize savings can be done on a more “normal” scale with a little bit of effort. Stockpiling can be done without crossing over into Hoarding. I highly recommend you read Denise’s series on BlogHer about Extreme Couponing, including her weekly Challenges. She has great realistic tips!
