Movie Music at the Houston Symphony

Friday night Charlie, Taina, and I attended the Star Wars and Beyond: A John Williams Tribute at the Houston Symphony.  I’m glad I chose this concert as part of my package! The kids really enjoyed hearing the movie music, especially the Star Wars themes and Jaws. I took Charlie and Taina to see Jaws at the movie theater last year and they loved it.

Prior to the concert there was a mini concert showcasing Star Wars music. The performers were dressed in Star Wars costumes which made it extra fun! The really neat part is the performance was by kids ages 11-18 from the Virtuosi of Houston.  They did an outstanding job!

I didn’t know that John Williams also scored TV shows before he made it big in the movies. I also had to explain some of the older movies, like E.T., to the kids. *Note to self: expand Charlie and Taina’s movie knowledge to include classics I grew up with.*

I’m looking forward to the next Pops concert – The Best of Benny Goodman. I know Charlie has never been exposed to swing and jazz music and am pretty sure Taina hasn’t either. It should be tons of fun!

  1. Oh my goodness! What a fun experience! These symphonies you take the kids to are fantastic! Once the grand is a little bigger I am going to have to see if our local symphony does anything like this!

    • Definitely! Charlie started going when in 2nd grade, around 7-8 years old. Most symphonies offer special concerts just for kids too. I chose the Pops! concerts because they are more “current” style of music and the kids would enjoy them more. I am moving onto the true classics next season mixed in with the Pops! concerts.
