>Freshman Initiation

>

Howard Payne University has a long standing tradition of Freshman Initiation, now called Daze of Payne. I know it has evolved and changed since I was there. My big sister was very nice, the rules were laid out on paper, it was fun, and voluntary.

Button ups, Mini Ha-Ha’s & Beanie wearing were the order of the day. Except the Class of 1990 had the infamous Weenie Beanies. For some reason, HPU couldn’t find normal looking beanies so we ended up with these atrocious things – much worse than a normal beanie.

Other traditions include cleaning out the H pond after the Mud Tug of War between the freshmen & upper classmen. There were designated dress up days with themes. There was also a Switch Out Day where our big sister/brother had to wear their beanie, get costumed up, & follow the Initiation rules.

So that explains some of the photos in this post. I have had so much fun sorting through all of these. Although I swear I am missing many many pictures from my 4 years at HPU. Maybe my memory just ain’t what it used to me and I’m imagining I had more photos. Who knows? I hope you have enjoyed this trip down Memory Lane with me.
