Fever Blister Remedies

I rarely get fever blisters but when I do, they get big and ugly really fast. Like blisters forming within a hour or two of the tingly feeling fast. I get them when I am physically run down, stressed, and not eating right. I can tell when one is starting because of the tingly feeling in my upper lip. Then, BAM, a blister forms and before you know it, I have multiple blisters that are HUGE!  For some weird reason I only get them on my right side upper lip.

Fever blisters are also referred to as cold sores and are caused by the herpes simplex virus.  You can’t get rid of the virus once it is in your body.

When I feel the tingly that tells me a fever blister is developing I start taking Lysine supplements immediately. I also take extra doses of Vitamin C and use Abreva. None of these remedies cure the fever blister but they help the body fight the virus, speeding up the healing process. I continue the supplements for at least a week after the blisters disappear.

I have not tried lemon balm or aloe vera as a remedy yet. I do have aloe vera plants that I use for other ailments. I might try some tonight before bed.

Fever blisters are a hassle. They are itchy, painful, ugly, and annoying. Mine is currently in the itchy stage. The blisters take anywhere from 8-14 days to heal completely.

I will spare you a photo of the fever blister that developed this morning. Suffice it to say I won’t be taking selfies anytime soon.

Do you get fever blisters? How do you treat them? Any sure fire home remedies I have not mentioned?

PS – the 2nd blister showed up around 5pm. UGH!
