Cub Scout flag raising at school

Charlie’s Cub Scout group is small. I mean like only 3-4 boys small. We don’t have Dens, just the Pack. That’s okay really. I kinda like the focus on quality instead of quantity. That being said, Hubby as the Assistant Cubmaster and the official Cubmaster in the fall, wants to focus on growing the Pack this summer.

Part of the “Master Plan” involves being more visible at the elementary school. We’ve applied for permission to meet at the school. I have arranged for the boys to raise the flags in the morning once a month. We had our first flag raising on Tuesday. The boys took it very seriously. Well, as serious as 1st grades can take anything.

Hubby reminded the boys how to treat the flags at the beginning. They did the Cub Scout salute and Pledge of Allegiance at the end.

All in all, it went better than I hoped. I’m looking forward to next month!

  1. What a great idea! I should do that with my Daisy troop. We just did our first flag ceremony at a PTO meeting and the girls did great. It is so important to expose them to ceremonies and the pride that they bring.

Yes! Charlie wasn’t keen on the wear your uniform all day at school idea at first. But it does help promote recruiting and visibility. Plus it gives the kids a chance to practice citizenship and other Scouting ideals. And it is fun!
